History of SBH Sciences
SBH Sciences, Inc. was founded in 1997 with the sole purpose of producing mammalian-derived recombinant cytokines. Since 1999, we have expanded our activities to include cell-based bioassays, in-vitro anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory lead compound screening, and the development of ELISA kits and biomarker analyses. We have continued our growth through partnerships with several companies. Our product line now includes monoclonal antibodies and specific glycosyltransferase enzymes. We have increased our biomarker analysis capabilities by offering AlphaScreen/AlphaLISA, analytical HPLC, ELISA, ELLA, flow cytometry, HTRF®, Luminex, MSD, Peggy Sue / WES / Jess, SMCxPRO, IsoLight and real-time PCR platforms.

SBH Sciences is the world leader in cell-based assays for measuring the biological activity of cytokines and growth factors. Our proprietary processes have led to the development and commercialization of 30 highly purified recombinant cytokines, 33 monoclonal antibodies, and eight recombinant glycosyltransferase enzymes, as well as ELISA kits. We are currently the only commercial source for the native human GDF-15/MIC-1. Over our 27 years in business, SBH Sciences has provided services to over 300 biotechnology companies across the globe.

SBH Leadership
Dr. Raphael Nir has served as President and Chief Scientific Officer of SBH Sciences since co-founding the company in 1997. He started SBH Sciences to fulfill his dream of becoming a key player in the biotech arena, and to help companies develop drugs. Under his management, SBH Sciences has become a leading supplier of recombinant cytokines and a preferred discovery research service provider.
Raphael is an ambitious entrepreneur and has co-founded seven additional biotech and diagnostics companies: Karyopharm Therapeutics, SBH Diagnostics, Woodland Biosciences, Galectin Sciences, Alma Bio Therapeutics, Vuja De Sciences and NeuroDex. To fulfill his vision and help startup companies, he co-founded two additional companies; Sky Ventures and ABI-LAB; a 7-year old bioincubator located in Natick, MA, currently housing 45 biotechnology companies.
Prior to SBH Sciences formation, Raphael earned his Ph.D. in biotechnology as well as a M.S. in biochemistry, and a B.S. in chemistry from Tel-Aviv University. His postdoctoral research was at Schering Plough Research Institute where he later became a Senior Scientist/Associate Principal Scientist and developed innovative cell culture processes and solutions related to biological production. Additionally, he earned a M.S. in engineering management from New Jersey Institute of Technology (1997).

Ventures at SBH aims to incubate breakthrough scientific ideas and to support entrepreneurs in the early stages of research and development. SBH offers extensive lab space, equipment, scientific expertise, business development, grant submission assistance, networking opportunities, and early / seed-stage investments.
Expanding Services
SBH Sciences established two strategic partnerships expanding our services to cover the drug-discovery spectrum from in-vitro lead optimization through innovative animal modeling and companion diagnostics. In addition, SBH has partnered with ABI-LAB, a Boston-based Accelerator and Bio-Incubator, to offer 60 affordable lab spaces as well as innovative pre-clinical services.
